MSMUNQ 2019 Participant Booklet

SDG 1 No Poverty and SDG 5 Gender Equality:

Location: QNCC rooms 201 and 202

Time: 1:40pm-5­­­:20pm

Materials needed: Laptops will be provided, however we recommend that delegates also bring their own.

Bidyanondo Foundationis a charitable organization that works with refugees and the disadvantaged in Bangladesh, one of the world’s Least Developed Countries. Bidyanondo offers microfinance loans together with materials and tools to help women in the refugee camps to start a business producing clothing for sale. Bidyanondo also packages, delivers and sells these garments on a volunteer run website http://refugee.store/home

Delegates will speak with the program organisers in Cox’s Bazaar through skype and be introduced to some of the business women as well. Delegates will then have the opportunity to ask questions of the program organisers and of the women through translators. Finally, delegates in these committees will create T-shirt designs for free use by the ladies in the program, thus offering a fresh and unique stamp onto their products, which we hope will increase sales for them on the international markets.

SDG 2 Zero Hunger & SDG 15 life on land:

Location: Radateh Bakekia, Shamal Road

Materials needed: Hats, sunscreen. Water bottles, pens and notebooks provided by THIMUN Qatar.

Delegates will be bussed to the desert, and meet with QF’s experts on replanting Qatar and sustainability. They will also have the opportunity to plant native and hardy flora in the desert, with explanations of how these plants affect the biodiversity of the country.

SDG 3 Good Health and Well Being:

Location: QNCC Exhibition Hall

Time: 1:40pm-5:20pm

Materials needed: Sports Kit, please ensure that all clothing is below the knee and cover the shoulders We also recommend sports or comfortable shoes

This service activity will be broken into three parts; the first part will be in the committee rooms, where delegates will be building a service activity on pre-selected SDG 3 indicators, and connecting these indicators to their specific communities. These service activities can be proposed to their schools and used to improve the Good Health and Well Being of their communities. The second activity will be a sporting activity in the Exhibition hall, which includes relays, sprinting, puzzles and more. We wrap up with a final quiz to find the SDG 3 winner!

 

SDG 4 Quality Education:

Location: QNCC room 215

Time: 1:40pm-5:20pm

Materials needed: Laptops will be provided, however we recommend that delegates also bring their own.

Education in the refugee camps in Cox’s bazaar face many challenges. We will connect over skype with the teachers in the camps to discuss the status of education in the refugee camps. Delegates will also get the opportunity to meet the students in the classroom and to learn a song together across the airwaves. Delegates will then spend some time creating 20 min short lessons for use as resources for the students.

SDG 6 Clean Water & Sanitation and SDG 14 Life Below Water:

Location: For every spring a flower  camp

Materials needed: Comfortable shoes for use on the beach, light clothing, sunscreen and hats. Water bottles are provided by THIMUN Qatar

Delegates will be bussed to Al-Khor and the For every Spring a flower camp, where they will meet with conservationists for a Q & A on the importance of clean-ups and the effect of pollution on the sea shores. THIMUN Qatar will issue pincers, gloves and rubbish bags and the delegates will be split into teams, and guided into the mangroves to collect the rubbish for 60 minutes. Once time has elapsed, bags will be counted per team, and an award issued to the winning team.

SDG 9 Industry Innovation & Infrastructure and SDG 13 Climate Action:

Location: Kahramaa Awareness Park

Materials needed: None, notebooks and pens provided by THIMUN Qatar

Delegates will be bussed to Kahramaa Awareness Park and will meet in the auditorium for a presentation on Energy Awareness. They will then have the opportunity to tour the park to participate in the activities there; building sustainable homes, learning how the water is desalinated sustainably, and identifying how Qatar gets it power.

SDG 11Sustainable Cities and Communities

Location: QNCC room 239

Time: 1:40pm-5:20pm

Materials needed: Laptops will be provided, however we recommend that delegates also bring their own.

This service activity will focus around eco-schools, and assessment of whether schools are using sustainable practices to be as eco-friendly as possible. This initiative, encouraged by MSMUNQ students, needs to be led by a student led committee once delegates return to school, in collaboration with school management to implement changes to the schools. Successful schools may then submit information to eco-schools to gains green flag status.

SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions:

Location: QNCC room 236

Time: 1:40pm-5:20pm

Materials needed: Laptops and Court Robes will be provided by THIMUN Qatar.

Delegates will work with Qatar University’s Externship program and take part in a court simulation to understand the workings of the Moot Court. Delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Moots Court Advocates, and will then be assigned roles to simulate a moot court question on one of the issues on the agenda.
